How to Complete a Video-based Discussion Using Kaltura
Online discussions are a fabulous learning opportunity. Blackboard includes a built-in discussion tool.
Traditionally, discussions have been done by typing our your thoughts. These days, some online discussions will ask you to submit a video instead of typing your reply.
Video Recording Options
Here are three great options for recording and submitting your videos to discussions.
- Kaltura Express Capture is good for making videos on-the-spot. Just record and submit. No download required. The recorder is web-based.
- Kaltura Capture is a recorder that you must download and install. If you are making longer videos or videos that require more preparation, this is a better option.
- Use an existing video. Even if you recorded a video on your phone, you can still submit and use in a discussion. However, you must upload it to the Kaltura server first.
What to Do if You Cannot Record a Video
We understand that recording a video is not always possible. In that case, you can do one of two things.
- First, you can record audio only. You can do this using the same methods above, but only record the audio, not the video.
- Second, if absolutely necessary, you can complete the discussion in text by typing in your posts.
If you are submitting audio or text for a video-based discussion, it's a good idea to reach out to your instructor to let them know your situation.
