How to Post a Kaltura Video in a Discussion

Beginning in Fall 2024, a new method of embedding videos in discussions has been released. This new method will work for any video that has been uploaded to your Kaltura media collection. This includes videos recorded with Kaltura Capture, Express Capture, or even videos recorded with your phone or other device

New, EASY Embed Process

Once the video you want to embed is in your Kaltura MyMedia collection...
  1. When posting or replying in a discussion, type a title in the Subject line, then
  2. Click the Add Content button
  3. Scroll to Kaltura Videos - Embed Media and click
  4. A popup will open. Wait for your media to load.
  5. Find the media you want to submit and click </>Embed to the right of the media
  6. You will be returned to the discussion editor and your video will be embedded in the area where your post or reply is created.
  7. Click Submit to post your video discussion.

Manual Embed Method

If the above method is not working for some reason, you can still use an older method to embed your video.

In this method, you FIRST get an embed code from Kaltura, THEN visit the discussion forum.

    1. Log in to Blackboard and open your Kaltura media collection. Here are two methods to get to your My Media collection:
    2. From My Media list, click the name of the video you want to submit
    3. Wait for the page and media player to load
    4. Click the share icon at the top right corner of the media player
    5. Click the code symbol at top center to display the embed code
    6. Click the icon to the right of the embed code to copy.
    7. Return to the discussion area in your Blackboard course and click Create Thread
    8. Click the Insert Media button
    9. In the window that opens, click Embed on the left, then paste your embed code and Save
    10. You should see your video preview in the editor. Click Submit at bottom.
