I cannot see the menu in my class

In Blackboard, there are two menus that usually appear on the left side of the screen (when viewed on a normal-size computer screen): The course menu and, if you have navigated inside of a module, the table of contents. Either of these menus can sometimes be hidden (collapsed) or hard to find. Here's what to check if you cannot see the menu.

Course Menu

The course menu is always located at the far left of the screen (when viewed on a normal-size computer screen). If your browser window is re-sized smaller than specified dimensions, the course menu will automatically collapse -- and seem to have disappeared. See the default location of the course menu.

If this has happened, a vertical, orange bar should be visible along the left edge of the browser. Click this bar to restore the course menu. See the vertical orange bar that shows the course menu.

Likewise, you can manually collapse the menu using the same orange bar. It will appear if you hover your mouse over the right vertical edge of the course menu. vertical orange bar that hides the course menu.

Module Table of Contents

By default, the table of contents for a module appears between the course menu and the active course page. The table of contents sometimes seems to be missing, but that could be due to (1) it being collapsed or (2) it being moved to the bottom of the browser window.

 

Collapse or Expand the Table of Contents

To collapse the table of contents, click the icon at the far left in the indicated area in the image. The icon looks like a vertical bar. If the menu is collapsed, there will be three icons, stacked vertically. Click either of the top two to restore the table of contents.

Resize the Table of Contents

The table of contents can be one of two widths. To resize the table of contents, click the icons that look like squares. The largest one makes it wider, while the more slender one makes it more narrow.

Move the Table of Contents

Use the arrow icon to move the table of contents to the bottom of the browser window. Likewise, if the table of contents is already at the bottom, use the arrow icon to move it back to the upper left area.
