How do I submit an assignment?
Blackboard has an assignment feature through which students can submit files to their instructors. When turning in your work, be sure to pay attention to what the instructor wants and how to submit.
Submit a File
Often, your instructor will include text something like this in their assignment areas:
Follow these steps to submit your ______________:
- Please create your document using proper MLA [APA] formatting (MS Word template linked in the Assignment).
- Save your file as a DOCX, or PDF.
- Select the Browse my Computer button below.
- Choose the DOCX, or PDF and click Open.
- Submit.
- If you make a mistake, don't worry. Just resubmit.
PLEASE DO NOT PASTE YOUR WORK IN THE ASSIGNMENT WINDOW.
When you instructor specifies a file type (in this case, .docx or .pdf) it is important to submit the right type of file. Blackboard will allow instructors to grade certain file types more robustly than others. Files can be word processing documents (Such as from MS Word), spreadsheets (such as from Excel), images, and so on. When submitting a file, use the Browse My Computer button. Clicking this button launches a pop-up window that will allow you to select the file(s) to attach to your submission. Read more about submitting an assignment on the Blackboard website.
Do not Write or Paste Your Work in the "Create Submission" Area
Unless your instructor specifically tells you otherwise, do not type or paste your work in the Text Submission text editor area. The most common method of submitting work is by attaching a file (above).
One exception is when you are submitting a Kaltura video as an assignment. See below for more details.
Do Not Paste or Write Your Work in the "Add Comments" Box
Never paste or type your work into the Add Comments box. The Add Comments box is only for including a comment or note about your assignment to your instructor. Pasting or typing your work in this area could mean your work is not graded.
Submit an Image or Video Assignment
- Follow these directions to attach an image with your assignment submission.
- Follow these steps to submit a video as an assignment.
